Energising Change.
With extensive experience working with Australian businesses since 2007, we’ll take the stress out of calculating certificate rebates, data gathering and achieving scheme compliances.
Speak with our Energy and Carbon Specialists to get started today.
What are Small-Scale Technology Certificates?
Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) are a tradeable certificate in Australia’s renewable energy market. They are part of the federal government’s Renewable Energy Target (RET) scheme, which aims to promote the uptake of renewable energy sources.
1 STC = 1 MWh of calculated electricity either generated by a renewable energy source or displaced by the installed system.
The quantity of STCs is calculated based on the location of the system, the electricity generated or displaced, and the years left in the scheme until it ends in 2030.
How to Generate STCs.
STCs are generated by installing small-scale technologies that harness renewable energy. This can include solar panels, wind turbines, solar or air source heat pump water heaters, that have a generation capacity of 100 kilowatts or less. In some cases, STCs can be generated alongside state based certificates such as VEECs, ESCs and REPS.
When these technologies are implemented, an Authorised Certificate Provider (ACP), such as Ecovantage, ensures the project complies with the activity rules and generates the corresponding quantity of certificates.
What Organisations do with STCs.
Once generated through an eligible energy saving project, the STCs are sold or traded to liable entities, such as energy retailers, or surrendered to offset an organisation’s own emissions.
Sold certificates are generally used to reduce the upfront investment cost of an energy efficiency project.

Assessment, Viability & Quoting
Our specialist team will assist you in assessing the project to establish viability, and provide certificate outcomes based on the calculated savings.
Project Implementation
As the project is implemented, certain information is collected by the installation team necessary to creating STCs.
STC Creation
Application requirements are collected, assessed and processed by Ecovantage’s dedicated Compliance team
Monetisation
The STCs generated may be credited toward the project costs to reduce the capital outlay required for the project.
