Client Overview.
The client works at an educational facility in New South Wales, Australia, and was looking to implement a 350kW rooftop solar PV system.
Project Summary.
Ecovantage was engaged by the client to assess their energy upgrade project and make a recommendation on the highest return through available energy efficiency incentives. Ecovantage’s Commercial Manager, Katie Tebbatt, established the best return for the large-scale system was to create Large-Scale Technology Certificates (LGCs) under the Renewable Energy Target (RET).

LGC Process.
1. System Quoting
We assigned a dedicated account manager to quote on an LGC outcome based on the current market rates and the system’s expected generation.
2. Client Meeting
We met with the client to explain the LGC registration and creation process, including how they may be monetised or surrendered.
3. LGC Application
Ecovantage registered the system as a Power Station with the Clean Energy Regulator (CER).
4. LGC Creation
LGCs are created each month based on the prior month’s generation. The client receives a detailed report that outlines the monthly generation and certificate creation for their site.
3. Monetisation
The client opted to monetise the LGCs each year, until 2030, instead of surrendering them.
Project Takeaways.
The client was after the most lucrative option for the energy generated from this system.
Due to the system’s size and location in NSW, LGCs were the best option. A combination of STCs and LGCs was an option, however 100% LGCs had the highest return.
