The Project

Toolern Vale and District Primary, is a small school of 180 students located 40km north west of Melbourne.

The school engaged the Victorian Employers’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI) to conduct an energy assessment. This assessment provided them with practical, tailored advice on how they could reduce their energy consumption and ultimately save money on their energy bills. A significant part of this advice involved upgrading their fluorescent lighting to energy efficient LED tubes.

Toolern Valley Primary

The Solution

The school engaged Ecovantage to supply and install 182 new LED tubes to replace their old inefficient halogen fluorescent lighting.

The school’s original lighting was patchy with different colours. The new lighting is uniform with higher light output, therefore reducing eye strain and making it more comfortable for the students.

The long lifetime of the LED tubes means the school’s savings will extend for decades in reduced energy costs and non-existent maintenance costs.

The environment will also benefit − carbon emissions from lighting will be reduced by approximately 9,710 kWh or 11.54 tonnes of CO2 per annum.

Key Benefits of the Lighting Upgrade

  • Rebates of $1,856 achieved through Government incentive schemes.
  • Carbon emissions reduced by 11.54 tonnes C02 per annum.
  • Longer lifetime of LED expected to deliver maintenance savings of $7,760 p.a.
  • $2,330 per annum in energy savings.
  • Total payback period of only 2.2 years.
