The Project

Gosford Police Station partnered with Lumaled, Ecovantage and DTZ to undertake a high quality, low energy solution to replace their existing lighting.

The aim of the upgrade was to reduce electricity consumption to counteract rising bills and to decrease ongoing maintenance costs.

The Solution

The key upgrade for this site was the replacement of 36W T8 fluorescent tubes with Lumaled’s18W LED tubes. These not only halve the energy consumed, but with a 40,000 hour lifetime rating the new tubes are expected to last significantly longer than the previously installed fluoro tubes.

The lighting upgrade has resulted in estimated electricity savings of $42,974.50 per year (equivalent to 254.98 tonnes of CO² per year). The creation and sale of ESCs (Energy Saving Certificates) reduced the initial outlay to $52,653 (from $155,312) which reduced the payback period to 99 weeks (1.91 years).

Key Benefits of the Lighting Upgrade

  • Rebates of over $100,000 achieved through Government incentive schemes.
  • Almost 256 tonnes C02 emissions saved each year.
  • Total payback period of only 1.9 years.
