AEMO Plots the Course for Australia’s Electric Future
The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has released its 2024 Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO), detailing the investments needed over the next decade to maintain reliability in the National Electricity Market (NEM).
AEMO CEO Daniel Westerman highlighted the progress of the energy transition so far, with renewable sources now providing 40% of electricity to the east coast.
While short-term reliability has improved, AEMO is preparing for potential low reserve conditions in summer by tendering for off-market reserves in Victoria, New South Wales, and South Australia.

Victoria’s New Tool to Lighten the Energy Load
Victoria’s State Electricity Commission (SEC) is kickstarting a statewide energy-saving campaign, introducing an electric home planner to help residents make the switch to electrification easier and more personalised.
This one-stop shop pilot, now rolling out in Casey, Merri-bek, and Ballarat, allows households to create tailored plans and connect with SEC-approved installers. The initiative builds on last year’s successful launch of a similar online tool in the ACT by the territory government and Choice.
