Noosa Festival of Surfing – March 2024
Australia’s love affair with surfing isn’t just about catching waves; it’s also about preserving the pristine environments that make those waves so enticing. This sentiment was at the heart of the recent Noosa Festival of Surfing (NFOS), Australia’s premier surfing event, held from 9 March to 17 March 2024.
What made this year’s NFOS stand out was not just the impressive display of surfing talent, but its commitment to environmental sustainability. In a wave-breaking move, NFOS with the help of Ecovantage, attained Climate Active certification, making it Australia’s largest surfing event to achieve this accreditation.

Networking with Noosa
Ecovantage were the naming partner for the highly anticipated Tourism Noosa night, a highlight event during NFOS. Held against the picturesque backdrop of the beach bar, this gathering stands out as the premier networking opportunity of the year for Tourism Noosa members.
Ecovantage’s General Manager for Energy & Carbon Services, Aaron Jenkins, introduced Ecovantage to the audience, shedding light on our mission and the solutions we provide. With several members of our team in attendance, the night brimmed with fruitful conversations and potential partnerships in the making.

OMG!
An innovative program introduced at NFOS was the Offset My Gear (OMG) initiative. Surfers were given the opportunity to offset the carbon emissions generated by their surfboards through the purchase of OMG Credits. These credits support the carbon offset project SeaTrees by Sustainable Surf, aligning with the ethos of preserving the ocean environments that surfers hold dear.

The Future
In a world where the health of our oceans is increasingly under threat, initiatives like those undertaken by NFOS and Ecovantage serve as beacons of hope. By marrying the thrill of surfing with a commitment to environmental responsibility, they demonstrate that sustainability and sport can go hand in hand, paving the way for a greener, cleaner future for generations of surfers to come.
Looking ahead, Ecovantage is committed to extending its support to other surfing events, businesses, and organisations in their quest for carbon neutrality and environmental stewardship. Their expertise in guiding entities through the Climate Active certification process makes them a valuable partner for those seeking to make meaningful strides towards sustainability.
