Ecovantage is proud to have a long-standing relationship with Women’s Property Initiatives (WPI), supporting their organisation over a number of years. Whilst the pandemic caused some interruptions to the regular support that Ecovantage’s founder and CEO Bruce Easton strives for each year, in 2021 we were able to flex our solar and energy-efficient hot water muscles at two of WPI’s houses – read more about that here.
In 2022 we had the opportunity to combine our passion for sustainability with their passion for affordable housing with an array of solar across a number of homes.
Ecovantage understands the pressure put on Australians with rising energy costs, and those who are supported by WPI are often disproportionately affected by this. With this in mind, Ecovantage wanted to expand the support for this fantastic organisation with another series of solar installs, effectively reducing the living costs for the residents in four houses.
Who is WPI
WPI is an award-winning not for profit, community housing provider that creates new beginnings for women and children at risk of homelessness, through providing various forms of housing, access to support and ongoing advocacy. WPI offers so much more than just a home. They invest in women and children’s well-being and offer them an opportunity to thrive.
Ecovantage admires WPI’s work and is committed to helping them where possible. Currently, WPI own and manage 115 homes, accommodating more than 260 women and children, allowing them to live with dignity and security.
How We Were Able to Help
With four WPI properties in Tarneit in Melbourne’s west, Ecovantage recognised the opportunity to provide lower energy bills for residents by reducing their reliance on fossil fuel powered electricity. Across the four new houses, a total of 64 solar panels were installed, with 6.64kW installed on each roof. These systems are expected to generate over 8,000 kWh per annum for each house, with an expected total of almost $4,200 in annual energy savings for the residents. Generating their own clean electricity not only reduces the tenants energy bills, but helps to protect them against future energy price rises.
Along with the financial benefits, these rooftop solar systems abate a substantial amount of C02 emissions, with annual equivalents of:
9,713 litres of Petrol
10,700 kg of Coal
